How to register your drone with the FAA

In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires you to register if your aircraft weighs between .55 lbs. and 55 lbs. The X‑Star Premium weighs 3.13 lbs. and should be registered with the FAA before you begin flying to avoid penalties.

Registration is simple. Just follow the instructions below.

  1. Visit the FAA’s website for Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) Registration and create an account to register as a drone pilot.
  2. Check your email for confirmation.
  3. Follow the link in your confirmation email to finish creating your pilot profile.
  4. Acknowledge and agree to all of the safety guidelines.
  5. Enter your method of payment. If you are flying recreationally, a $5 fee covers as many aircrafts as you want. If you are flying for business, you must pay $5 per aircraft.
  6. Print the certificate and record your UAS number onto the aircraft with engraving, labeling, or permanent marker.

You are now registered with the FAA and ready for your first flight.
