SOUTH JORDAN, UT - Law enforcement agencies are constantly seeking innovative solutions to enhance their operations and improve public safety, and the South Jordan Police Department of Utah is no different.

They are opting to utilize the Autel Robotics Dragonfish drone in their law enforcement operations.

In this article we will explore how the South Jordan Police Department has recently integrated the Autel Dragonfish into its operations, showcasing its incredible potential in law enforcement.

Drones and the Law - A Partnership On the Rise

The South Jordan Police Department quickly recognized the need for advanced technology such as drones primarily as a way to enhance their capabilities and keep up with the demands of their rapidly growing city. As Sgt. Zachary Gee of the department explains, "It's shaping the way we conduct law-enforcement operations as a whole. And it's something we need to embrace and be a part of."

The Dragonfish has been applied across a wide variety of operations in South Jordan, ranging from accident reconstruction, search and rescue missions, public safety monitoring, and even tactical operations.

Dragonfish models are customizable with payloads that allow for varying use cases. With its 4K, 20x optical zoom camera, coupled with high-definition thermal imaging capabilities, the Dragonfish VTOL stands as one of Autel’s leading professional drone solutions.

The ability to swap between hovering and fixed-wing modes give it superior flexibility in how it approaches missions, and supports up to 158 minutes of non-stop flight time, allowing for extended search-and-rescue sweeps without issue.

Unprecedented Efficiency and Improved Decision-Making

With the integration of the Autel Dragonfish drone, the South Jordan Police Department experienced a significant boost in efficiency and operational effectiveness, with the drone able to perform tasks in a far more effective manner than a typical, large team of officers. The drone and its capabilities demonstrate a quicker, more efficient way for law enforcement to respond to the public or conduct operations, with less manpower.

“We’re trying to make sure we‘re innovating and being progressive in finding better ways to make our resident's tax dollars go further.” Sgt. Gee commented when asked about the Dragonfish and how it is deployed and used in operations.

Rather than solely relying on comms or radio, drones allow officers to get eyes in the sky - ultimately allowing them to make better, informed snap decisions should the need arise.

The ARTC - Empowering and Preparing Dragonfish Users

Sgt. Gee and four other officers of the department participated in Autel Robotics’ Dragonfish Training Course (ARTC) in order to become certified and be able to operate the UAV drone. The training program equips officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate the Dragonfish drone confidently.

The ARTC allows officers to gain a deep understanding of the drone's capabilities and learn essential operational procedures. By completing the ARTC, these officers can harness the full potential of the Dragonfish drone, enhancing their law enforcement operations and promoting responsible drone usage.

The ARTC is a mandatory course that Autel offers, with certificates awarded upon completion of the course.

Paving the Way Forward

The South Jordan Police Department's successful integration of the Dragonfish showcases its ability to significantly improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance decision-making.

Whether through its unique, portable design, intuitive controller and automation features, or strength and endurance, the Dragonfish is quickly becoming a favorite of law enforcement officers across the nation due to its superior efficiency in public safety operations.
